Mike Whiting – A Lifetime in Business

Mike Whiting is an Executive Business Consultant at Infinity Connect at the present. He has a varied professional career, having experience in government public sector service, healthcare services, hospitality and commercial enterprises in manufacturing. He has worked with some notable brands including M&S Opticians, McDonalds Restaurants, Deutsche Bahn, National Express and hospitality companies such as Mitchel and Butler and Enterprise Inns.

Early Career and Foundations

Mike’s professional journey began with McDonald’s Restaurants Ltd, where he gained his first real exposure to the world of work. Through dedication and hard work, he progressed through the ranks and eventually joined the management team. This formative experience provided him with invaluable insights into fast food operations and the responsibilities of leadership.

Transition to Hospitality and Property

Building on his experience, Mike moved into the hospitality sector as a manager with Bass Leisure Retail, which is now known as Mitchells & Butlers. This role enabled him to deepen his understanding of property, hotels, pubs, and bars, and marked the beginning of a career trajectory that would see him working with a property development and pub company for several years. During this period, Mike achieved his first management qualification in Human Resources Management, earning a CIPD accreditation in 2004.

Public Sector Experience and Legal Studies

In 2007, seeking a new challenge, Mike transitioned into the public sector, joining a government crime reduction unit that collaborated with the police and other governmental departments. His contributions in this role were recognised with various commendations, including a Police Constable Certificate for developing a training programme for new police recruits. It was during this time that he began studying law, ultimately qualifying with a law degree, LLB BA (Hons).

Entrepreneurship and Consulting

After leaving local government, Mike utilised his accumulated qualifications and experience to establish his own business, Kent Management Consultants. This venture offered him the opportunity to work across a range of industries, develop an understanding of supply chains, and engage with strategic business activities. The business was sold in 2017, marking another turning point in his career.

Return to Hospitality and Expanded Leadership

Mike then returned to the hospitality sector, joining LHA London, an accommodation provider catering to students and professionals from around the world. In this capacity, he led the Residential Services, Customer Services, and Human Resources departments, further broadening his expertise.

Recent Roles and Ongoing Professional Development

In recent years, Mike have continued to support businesses across the travel and logistics sectors, as well as retail and sales. His work has also involved advising clients on business functions, back-office capabilities, succession planning, and litigation. During this period, he completed an MBA and have represented individuals and organisations in a variety of legal forums in the United Kingdom, often in a role similar to that of a “McKenzie Friend”.

New Qualifications and Future Aspirations

Most recently, Mike achieved TEFL accreditation, enabling him to teach English abroad, including in countries such as Vietnam.

In January 2026, he begins studying for a BSc in Psychology, with the aim of combining his knowledge of psychology and teaching in his future endeavours.
